2018 Caribbean Age Group Triathlon & Duathlon Championship

EVENT INFORMATION
This event is for athletes ages 12 and up. Male and female winners in each event, each age group and division will receive an award and will be named Caribbean Triathlon/Duathlon Champion. Elites must race in the open or elite category. All athletes must ne caribbean residents accredited by their national federations.

EVENTS AND DISTANCES
Duathlon: 1 mile run, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
Sprint triathlon: .25 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
Standard triathlon: .5 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike, 6.2 mile run

Competition Rules

SCOPE AND PURPOSE
The Event CARIBBEAN AGE GROUP TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS is a non-governed event organized by directors from Caribbean Island Nations.

In the spirit of competition and so that the event survives into the future, invited NFs are asked to counsel their athletes and insure compliance with rules put forth in this document. The ultimate goal of the Caribbean Age Group Triathlon Championship is to bring Caribbean nations together with a common goal of developing young athletes in the region.

RULES
For the purpose of recognition and awards, only athletes from Caribbean nations specifically listed in the “Qualified Nations” section of this document will be considered. Athletes must be authorized and registered by their National Federations to receive recognition and awards however, anyone may participate in the event’s “open divisions”. NFs are asked to comply with Olympic standards on residency requirements for competitors. Please, no “ringers” (elites racing as age groupers or non- residents).

PARTICIPANTS
Age Group Athletes: Only age group athletes from qualified nations will be recognized. Nations should insure that registered competitors are qualified age group competitors and not elites.
Elites: Elites may race in the Caribbean Elite or open division.
Other Participants: This event is open to everyone ages 12 and older, however, only parties recognized as qualified age group athletes will be recognized as a Caribbean Age Group Champion.

AGES AND AGE GROUPS
All athletes must be at least 12 years old on May 15th, 2018. Athlete age groups will be calculated based on the athlete’s age on December 31, 2018. Age groups are: 12-14, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29,30-34, etc.

AWARDS
Top male and female athletes in each age group will be recognized and receive an award.

EVENTS AND DISTANCES
Duathlon: 1 mile run, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
Sprint triathlon: .5 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. Standard triathlon: .9 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 6.2 mile run

NATIONAL UNIFORMS
Standard national uniforms will not be required, however, NFs should encourage their athletes to wear uniforms meeting ITU Age Group uniform standards, if they have them.

EVENT ORGANIZER AND SANCTIONING BODY
This event is being hosted and organized by Multirace and sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Multirace has agreed to provide separate timing for all recognized Caribbean age group athletes.

REGISTRATION
Registration for the Caribbean championship division closes on May 15th, 2018. Athletes who register after May 15th, 2018 will still be able to compete but will not be recognized as a Caribbean competitor.

In order to effectively identify Caribbean competitors, NF’s must also notify scott@vitf.org of registrations.
